Steven E. Mountford

Steven (Steve) Eugene Mountford, 55, Rockford, Illinois, passed away on February 10, 2021 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving partner Michelle by his side. 
 
Steve was born August 19, 1965 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Belvidere, IL, the only son to Philip E. & Janette A. (Cameron) Mountford, who each predeceased Steve, along with his eldest sister, Teresa L. “Terry” Mountford.  

Steve is survived by his devoted, loving partner and best friend, Michelle Moberg, daughters, Miranda (Markos) Mendoza and McKenzie Mountford. Grandchildren, Macy, Mary & Mady Mendoza who have fond memories of their “papa” letting them color his tattoos.

Michelle (Willis) Hurst,
Amy Pool, nephew, Jason Pool, Great nephew, Caleb Pool, maternal Aunt, Joan Cameron, and many cousins.  

Steve’s later life season was spent as a family with his partner Michelle, her children Justin Moberg and Kayla Ross, and Michelle’s grandchildren, whom Steve had a special bond and special nicknames for; Jaxon (his “little buddy”) & Abriella (his “GG goofy-goober”) Dotson and Lennox  (baby “LJ”) Murphy. 
Jaxon & Abriella loved there time spent dancing with “grandpa” after dinner. 
  
Steve stayed in contact with many of his cousins’ and friends, even if time had passed in seeing them, he would take time to visit, and had a knack for picking up conversations easily. 

Steve enjoyed cooking, motorcycles, camping, music, animals, concerts, barbeques, truck driving, and spending time with family and friends. He was regarded as both a great cook and a friend of many years. He is remembered and appreciated as being supportive of others dealing with life’s challenges. Many would describe Steve as having a caring heart, a good sense of humor, and one who could hold his own in a disagreement. 

In the end, all would agree that “family is family” and no person or power could take that away. To all those who hold Steve as family and friend, his memory lives on.
