SAMUEL “PAUL” BARMORE – departed this earthly life on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Swedish American Hospital. He was born on February 1, 1947, in Rockford, Illinois, and was a lifelong resident of
Rockford. He was conceived from his father Rev. Howard Barmore and mother Gaitha Barmore.
He graduated from Auburn High School in 1960 and attended Rock Valley College temporarily. At the age of 12, Paul expressed his love for music learning to play the guitar. He started playing bass guitar at 17 years old. In the early 1960’s, he played the electric bass guitar with a musical group called The Chancellors. In the late 1960’s and the 1970’s he played the electric bass guitar for a different group called The Backsliders. Samuel “Paul” was on the road for many years traveling and providing music for other musicians in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Canada, Hoboken, London, Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois. He eventually became a freelance musician, playing with different musicians for events, local nightclubs and lounges in Rockford while also working day jobs. He later formed the Freestyle R&B band in 2002, where he was the original bass guitarist. Samuel “Paul” Barmore retired from District 205 Transportation Department.
He leaves many cherished memories with family and loved ones, his life long partner, Gloria Hyatte and sons; his former wife of 34 years Annell Barmore and their six children, Paul “Andre” Barmore of Rockford, IL, Rev. Terrance Barmore of Dallas, TX, Thomas “Pierre” Barmore, Samuel (Nicole) Barmore, Lennell Barmore of Rockford, IL, Arleatha Barmore of Houston, TX, Howard Barmore also of Rockford, IL, and twenty-four grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren. His surviving three sisters, Nancy (Harry) Hagger Jr., Mary (Stan) Barmore-Reese, and Odessie Barmore of Rockford, IL. His surviving three brothers, Melvin (Antionette) Barmore of Huntsville, AL, William (Evelyn) Barmore, and Christopher (MaryAnn) Barmore of Rockford, IL. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
He is predeceased in death by his parents, three sisters Eleanor Marks, Irene Lott, and Rev. Priscilla Rose Adkins, two brothers
Phillip Barmore, Bruce Barmore and two grandsons Courtney D. Barmore and Michael C. Henderson Jr.
