Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Yancey passed away on March 13, 2024 at the age of 87 in Conroe Texas. She was born on December 18, 1936, in Mississippi; and later moved to Illinois. Ruth was a pioneer in teaching her children to know their worth, experience life through traveling, reading and different cuisines. Ruth extended her kindness to everyone she knew and met. Ruth’s humor was limitless.
Ruth was very active in the Israel of God’s Church in Rockford, Illinois, until she became ill. Ruth was the piano player, choir member and led cooking classes.
Ruth was married to William E. Yancey and of this marriage 6 children were born, Gordon, Frank, Ruth Sockwell, Brenda Knuckles (John), Andrea Benson (Rashidi), Angela Henson (Victor), 18 Grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren. Siblings: Brothers: Vance King (Julie), Larry King (Henrietta), sisters Carolyn Pickett (Rev. Norman), Bonnie Gilmore and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by parents, husband, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Memorial services to be held in Texas And Illinois at a later date.
