Rosemary Moore peacefully departed this life on May 7, 2026, at St. Anne's Hospice Center in Rockford, Illinois. She was born on September 4, 1940, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to the late Costello Wilson and Ida Mae Wilson. She married Timothy Moore in the late 1960s. Although the two divorced in the mid 1970s, they remained great family friends.
Rosemary was a woman of intelligence, grace, discipline, and deep faith. She graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1959 from St. Mary's High School, where she also helped lead her basketball team to a state championship victory. During her school years, she also explored her love for the arts and earned a lead role in a high school theater production. Rosemary obtained a phlebotomy certification from Ottumwa Heights College in Ottumwa, Iowa. Upon graduation she moved to Rockford where she began her career.
Rosemary dedicated many years of service as a Supervisor and Manager at Williams Clinic, where she was respected for her professionalism, leadership, and strong work ethic. She believed strongly in punctuality and was known for arriving early to every event, appointment, and gathering.
She was a lifelong learner and enjoyed reading books, completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and staying informed on current events and politics. Rosemary faithfully watched the television program "The View" each day and enjoyed thoughtful conversations about national and local issues. Music brought her joy, especially blues, R&B, and gospel music.
Rosemary treasured family and friendships. She took pride in remembering birthdays, anniversaries, and special milestones, always making others feel loved and celebrated. Her warm spirit and thoughtful nature touched many lives.
She was a devoted woman of faith and a longtime member of St. Sabina Catholic Church before relocating to Rockford in 2005. After moving, she became a faithful member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Rosemary also enjoyed fellowship through the Red Hat Society, where she celebrated friendship and sisterhood with other women.
Rosemary leaves to cherish her memory: her sisters Wanda Hill, Linda (Montel) Putney; nieces, Jill (Zachary) Smith, Lea Wilburn, Amanda (Timothy) Bragg; nephew Henry (Donna) Patterson; grand-nieces and nephews Zachary (Dartessa) Smith, Elizabeth Smith; Jessica Wilburn, Derrick Wilburn Jr., Dante Wilburn, Tim Bragg II, Jarnae Patterson, Aanjae (Phillip) Lindemann, Malik Patterson; great nieces and nephews:
Armanii Wilburn McCoy, Jayceon Wilburn, Eli Wilburn, Eyesli Lindemann, Eyevarsun Lindemann, Zaida Smith, Zarah Wilburn, along with many cousins, extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will miss her dearly.
Though Rosemary has departed from this earthly life, her wisdom, kindness, faith, and loving spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Services will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, located at 617 Lincoln Avenue, Rockford, Illinois 61102.
