On December 17, 1969, the Lord blessed the lives of Patricia and Leonard Watson with a handsome baby boy they named Ricky LaMar Watson. We are so grateful that the Lord blessed us to love him for 54 years. He went home to be with the Lord February 2, 2024 in Roseville, California.
As we retrace the footprints of Ricky, we can only give thanks for the many lives he touched along his journey. Ricky was a very mischievous and curious little boy growing up. [At the age of 5, while at his granny’s house, he caught the city bus alone, went downtown, and returned safely back home!] There are so many of these stories that we shall forever cherish.
Ricky was a 1987 graduate of Rockford Lutheran High School. He left Rockford at age 17 and enlisted in the Navy soon after. While in the Navy he traveled extensively overseas and met lifetime friends/shipmates whom he stayed in contact withuntil the end. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1991.
Ricky married Elisia McKeever on September 19, 2009,in a beautiful outdoor wedding in California.
Ricky was employed for over 26 years with the Alameda County Probation Department, San Leandro, CA, as a Juvenile Institutional Officer. He retired in 2021.
Ricky was the family videographer; he loved electronics, great music, his mom’s cooking, and had a special bond with his two four-legged friends, pit bulls Diva and Roscoe. Ricky loved life; always telling jokes and always flashing that infectious smile. Our “gentle giant” always looked forward to coming backhome to Rockford so that he could enjoy his favorite,Lino’s pizza, and hang out with his cousins.
Ricky leaves behind his wife Elisia McKeever Watson;mother Patricia Nolan; father Leonard (Paula) Watson;brother Kris Nolan (Amy); niece Kora Nolan; Godchildren Angel, BJ, Faith, O’Mari, TeEra and ReMeisha;brothers-in-law Derek and Jucaronn Campbell; special cousins Lisa Marks and Yolanda Coleman; specialfriend Funpere Y Obidake; aunties, uncles and a host of cousins and friends.
‘For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course; I have kept the faith.’ II Timothy 4:6-7. Ricky was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, IcyNell and Clarence Brown, his paternal grandparents Madero and Lura Watson, mother-in-law Shirley Campbell and four-legged friends, pit bulls Diva and Roscoe.
Our hope is that Ricky’s spirit has found peace andcomfort, and that he is rejoicing with loved ones in heaven. He will be missed. We love you, Ricky!
