Celebrating the Life of Ray’Maad Jaymontae Christopher Nelson

October 7, 2003 – December 9, 2024

Ray’Maad Jaymontae Christopher Nelson, lovingly known as “Mr. Nelson,” entered eternal rest on December 9, 2024, at the age of 21. He was born on October 7, 2003, to Christine E. Mergener and Rayford E. Nelson Sr.

Ray’Maad’s radiant smile could light up any room. He brought joy and love to everyone he met, captivating hearts with his charm. He delighted in long walks and playing with his sensory toys, which filled his days with happiness and excitement. For 14 wonderful years, Ray’Maad was cared for at Walter Lawson Children’s Home, where he attended school and was affectionately known for keeping the staff on their toes, especially his devoted caregiver, Gary Huckstep. He had a deep appreciation for classical music, often finding peace and relaxation wrapped in his special blanket.

Ray’Maad’s legacy of love and memories will be forever cherished by his mother, Christine E. Mergener, and his loving brother, Ahmaad Graves. He also leaves behind his niece, Isabella Graves; four devoted aunts: Everlena (Neal) Whitby, Akiko Foreman, Victoria Mergener, and Raven Mergener; one uncle, Richard “Lokey” Overton Jr.; his grandparents, Everlena Mergener and Richard Overton Sr.; twelve cousins: Trevon, Nijeiba, Raheem, and Neffertiti Gregg; Terriona Conner; Jahmaad, Ja’syah, and Jaterrion Tyus; Maure’ona, Maure’ajah, Ra’Nyjah, and O’najah Adams; and two second cousins, Nehemiah and Nayari Bell. He will also be missed by a host of extended family and friends who loved him deeply.

Ray’Maad was preceded in death by his father, Rayford E. Nelson Sr., and his first cousin, Maurecus Adams Jr.

Reflections of Love

From Ahmaad, his brother:

“I miss you always, little bro.

My heart has been broken since the day you had to go.

The memories I treasure dearly flow with the tears I shed.

You’re in my thoughts every day, and that’s how it will always be.

Though you’re in heaven now, you’ll always be with me.

If only I could see your face or your smile just one more time…

The day heaven calls for me will bring relief from the pain,

And I’ll run to you with open arms—until we meet again.

Love, Ahmaad.”

From TT Vicky:

“Hey nephew, I don’t even know where to start.

The loss of you left me with a broken heart.

You were a rare gem, a bright shooting star.

Your life journey was short, and it’s tearing me apart.

You left your TT Vicky with a broken
