Mildred Dean Simmons 79, of Rockford departed this earthly life Wednesday, March 25 at home surrounded by loved ones after a brief illness. Mildred was born September 09, 1940 to Harrison Autman and Lola Nevels in Vance, Mississippi.
Mildred attended schools in Mississippi and continued her education in Rockford, Illinois. Mildred knew the importance of family and education, she worked tirelessly with parents and their children in the Headstart and Early Childhood Programs to ensure that children were prepared when they entered into Kindergarten. She retired from the City of Rockford/Rockford Public School District after 40 years of combined service.
She married Sam Simmons Sr. the love of her life in 1965. Mildred was a member of Washington Park Christian Church. Mildred was a great gardener, and relished the beauty that her flowers, plants and garden brought.
Mildred leaves to cherish many loving memories two sons, Terrance (Lisa) Simmons and Christopher Simmons; sister, Della House; grandchildren Kristopher Baeza, Pierre, Shawn, Dion Simmons, Christen Walker-Simmons, Cristelle Simmons, Artica Simmons, Aaliyah Simmons, and Leticia Johnson; great grandchildren, Kamorha, and through her union with Sam Sr. she gained a loving extended family, 7 step-children, Walter, Sam Jr., Yvonne, Harriet Michelle, Monica, Ramona, Cynthia, their spouses, several step-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Mildred is predeceased by both her parents; husband, Sam Simmons; two sons, Dion and Perry Simmons; two sisters, Vessie Harris and Roda Simmons and brother, Henry Williams.
