Luenetta (Lucy) Powell, was born November 2, 1956 in
Chicago, Illinois to Arline Powell and Lattimore Davis. She
went home to be with the Lord on July 29, 2021. Luenetta
attended Chicago and Rockford Public Schools and
graduated from Rockford Thomas Jefferson High School in
1975. As a teenager she, played recreational baseball for the
Blackhawk Angels. She enjoyed watching football, especially
the Bears. She graduated from Northern Illinois University
with a B.S. in Criminology.
After graduation she worked as a corrections officer for
the state of Illinois. She also worked in telemarketing at
Millward Brown Inc. In recent years, she worked for the Board
of Elections. Playing the slots were one of her favorite
pastimes. Her personal ministry was volunteering and helping
others in need.
In 1994, she gave birth to her lovely daughter, Miracle
Joy, who was her pride and joy. Luenetta enjoyed spending
time with her family and her twin granddaughters. She had a
special bond with all her nieces and nephews.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter

Powell, three sisters, Elvira Okwumabua, Janice (Horace)
Powell-Joiner of Rockford, IL, and Helen Powell (fiancé
Warren Scott) of Belvidere,IL, two brothers, Jerand (Cecelia)
Powell and David Powell of Rockford, IL, two beautiful
granddaughters, Leah and Rachel Shitera. She also leaves
special friends, Cheryl (Rick) Appleton, Norvell Clark, Mary
Boyd, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is predeceased by father Lattimore Davis, brothers John
and Percy Davis, Tyrone and Marvin Powell, and special
friend Clara Partee.
