In Loving Memory of Lorenzo Lavert Smith Jr.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Lorenzo Lavert Smith Jr., affectionately known as “Zo,” on June 15, 2026, at the age of 53.
Lorenzo lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and a genuine love for people. For more than 20 years, he proudly served the Rockford community as a barber. What began as a profession soon became his true passion. He spent part of his career working at Classic Cuts before pursuing his dream of opening his own in-home barbershop.
Throughout the years, Lorenzo touched countless lives, offering not only haircuts but also friendship, advice, laughter, and encouragement. To many, a visit to Zo’s chair felt like sitting down with family.
While Lorenzo enjoyed many hobbies and interests, barbering was where his heart truly lived. He took immense pride in his craft and found joy in helping others look and feel their best. His dedication, talent, and welcoming spirit earned him the respect and admiration of generations of clients and friends throughout Rockford.
Above all, Lorenzo loved his family.
He leaves behind his beloved children: Lorissa Smith, Lorenzo Smith, Zoriah Smith, Rhonda Charles, Zarria Smith, and Sherecee Smith.
He was a proud grandfather to Santiago Pacheco, Santana Marshall, Santino Marshall, Gia Pacheco, Amias Cheong-A-Shack, Zamora Tell, and Nailea Smith, all of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life.
Lorenzo is survived by his loving mothers, Sherry Smith and Cora Mae Woods. He is also survived by his brothers, LaTaurean John Brown, Quincy Woods, and Carie Woods Jr., Sister, Adriena Albert (Ditanial); along with many other relatives, friends, clients, and loved ones whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carie Woods Sr., and his brother, Shane Smith, whose memories he carried with him throughout his life.
Lorenzo will be remembered for his warm heart, infectious personality, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. His legacy lives on through the family he loved, the lives he touched, and the countless memories shared by those fortunate enough to know him.
Though his passing leaves a tremendous void, the love, wisdom, and kindness he shared will never be forgotten. His chair may now sit empty, but the impact he made on the lives of others will remain for generations to come.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the prayers, love, and support shown during this difficult time as they celebrate the life and legacy of Lorenzo Lavert Smith Jr. and honor the remarkable man he was.
