John Falls, 90, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024. He was born on January 4, 1934, in Holmes County, Mississippi, to Willie Falls and Izola Woodcox-Falls.
John graduated from Richland Vocational School, also known as the Little Red School House, in Mississippi. He furthered his education by attending Bible School and became a devoted member of Park Church in Rockford after relocating from Chicago, where he had been a member of Christ Chapel Church. As a young boy, John worked on his grandfather’s farm, contributing to his family’s livelihood. His hard work and strong values were instilled in him at an early age.
John worked at the University of Chicago for 40 years, where he built a career before retiring. Even after his retirement, he continued to work as a security guard at Libby Foods for many years.
John leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his family, which includes nine children: Christine Green of St. Louis, Missouri; Therrissa (John) Douglas of California; Julia Falls (Harold) of Illinois; Sherry Howard of Illinois; Jonathan (Carla) Falls of Illinois; Don (Willa) Falls of Illinois; Leatha (Dionnis Dow) Falls of Arizona; John Falls (Karen) of Minnesota; and Kevin Howard of Texas.
He is also survived by his siblings: Homer (Dorothy) Falls, Ed (Mary) Falls, Sam Falls, Charles (Martha) Falls, Connie Falls, and Ruth (Howard) Miller. John was blessed with many grandchildren: Nichole, John, Letricia, Patrick, Donald, Nicholas, Darius, Christopher, Britani, James, Jeanette, Brian, Jasmine, Lannika, Dartanius, Tykeise, Mario, Johnathon Jr., Jacob, Shatonya, Darnell, and Arthur as well as great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, an extended family along with a host of close friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Falls and Izola Woodcox-Falls, and his siblings: Clarence Falls, James Falls, Bill Falls, Thomas Falls, Alene Lewis Falls, Ruby (Martin) Falls, and Doris (Lewis) Falls.
John’s memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his life serves as a testament to hard work, dedication, and the love of family.
