Life & Legacy of Joe May
Joe May (Jody) Henderson departed this earthly life on May 1 , 2020 after a short illness. Joe May was born on April 27, 1951, in Sparkman Arkansas to Joe and Mariah Henderson. Joe May graduated high school in 1969 from Sparkman Training school before heading to Rockford, IL with her cousin Bessie to start a new life. Joe May would spend fifty- one years in Rockford, IL.
Joe May loved her family and friends! Joe May never missed an opportunity to attend any gathering or family celebrations! Joe May was an excellent cook. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends. There were many requests for many of her dishes and she enjoyed honoring any request from anyone who asked. Joe May also enjoyed shopping. She got a kick out of giving to others and that fueled her desire for shopping. She loved a good bargain.
Joe May was an active member of her church, Christ the Carpenter United Methodist Church. Joe May could be seen sitting on her favorite pew smiling and enjoying the word of God!
Joe May leaves to cherish in her memory four daughters Schata Henderson, Veronica Henderson, Brandy (LeRoy) Shipp and Ny’Zeeriah Henderson all of Rockford Il Two sons Na’Zeaire and Marquess Henderson both of Rockford Il Two brother Jimmy (Earnestine) Henderson and Hershel (Minnie) Henderson of Rockford, two sisters Elnora Goodwin of New Jersey and Jeanette Henderson of Georgia. Four grandkids Maleac Hubbard, Shantel Brewer, Schatavius Alston, and Stefin Alston all of Rockford IL God daughter Ronda Mathis. Special great-granddaughters Malayzjia and Malani Price. A host of many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters Eliza Boyland, Alice Malone, Betty Briggs, and one brother Eugene Henderson.
