Jesse James Jackson was born on June 21, 1953, in Leland, Mississippi, to the late Mary Willis and Louis Jackson. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and friend, touching the lives of many with his warmth, kindness, and generous spirit.
Jesse attended Howland Elementary and Hess Upper Grade School. After completing his education, he dedicated many years to Turner Brothers Remodeling Company before retiring. In his leisure time, he found joy in cooking, reading the Bible, and listening to his favorite musician especially Sam Cooke, gospel, and blues. A gifted songwriter, Jesse penned numerous gospel songs, sharing his faith and talent with those around him. He also enjoyed unwinding with classic cowboy movies, a favorite pastime.
On June 21, 2021, Jesse married Rose Marie Lumpkin, and their union brought seven wonderful children into his life: Larena, Doris, Diane, Ellis Jr., Cornell, Andreus, and Antreaus, in addition to his beloved daughters Jessica and Tameka. He is also survived by his two loving sisters, Mahalia Bennett and Sadie Jackson, of Chicago, IL. Jesse’s memory will be treasured by a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends, including his special friend Diane Ramsey, who provided loving care and companionship until his passing.
Jesse was preceded in death by his siblings: Robert, Willie, John Willis, Sam, Corinne, Ruby, Jimmie, John, Tommie, Joe, and Carl. After a life well-lived, he was called home by God on January 16, 2025, to rest from his labors and receive his reward.
Jesse's legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.
