Jerry Johnson Obituary

Jerry Lee Johnson (a.k.a. JJ), age 68, passed away unexpectedly on January 11, 2025, at Northwestern Medical Hospital.

Jerry was born on October 16, 1956, to Bobby Ray Johnson and Bessie Mae (Thomas) Johnson in Chicago, Illinois. In 2010, Jerry rededicated his life to Christ.

In 1970, Jerry moved to Chicago Heights, Illinois, where he attended and graduated from Rich East High School, Class of 1975. During his high school years, he enjoyed playing basketball and softball. After graduating, he worked as a construction worker alongside his father.

Jerry loved music, skating, dancing, and stepping with his sister. He also enjoyed watching old Western movies and cherished time spent with his family. Above all, he loved being a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.

In addition to his parents, Jerry (JJ) was preceded in death by his two nephews, Eric and Josh.

Jerry leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, including:

• Daughter: Nina Goins of Illinois

• Grandchildren: Shameka Goins, Cory Harper Jr., and Cierra Harper, all of Illinois

• Great-grandchildren: Iveryanna, DaJaun Goins, and Kayloni Harper

• Brothers: Bobby (Debra) Johnson of Illinois and Robert Johnson of Minnesota

• Sisters: Edweina (Johnson) Terrell of Illinois, Annette Johnson and Patricia Johnson both of Indiana

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, along with a host of extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Jerry Lee Johnson touched the lives of many and will be remembered for his love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and faith.
