Earl Thompson, Jr. Obituary

Earl “Bone” Thompson of Rockford, Illinois departed his earthly life June 17, 2026 at Alden Debes Rehabilitation & Health Care Center after a brief illness. Earl was born in Epps, Louisiana to the late Early Thompson and Elizabeth Johnson in 1938. Mr. Thompson and his family eventually moved to Rockford, Illinois at the age of 11. Earl Thompson married Lucille Williams in 1959 where they gave birth to 11 lovely children. Mr. Thompson worked at various factories including Gunite in efforts to take care of his wife and children. He was a friendly guy as well as a loving and caring father to not only his children but his step-children with the late Bonnie Grenoble. He also loved to hang out with friends and family and had a remarkable memory at his age.

Earl leaves to cherish a host of relatives and friends. He leaves behind his sons Billy Ray Thompson of (Milwaukee, WI), Bobby (Jolene) Thompson of (Janesville, WI) Terry (Tammy) Thompson of (Rockford, IL) Maurice Thompson of (Winder, Georgia), Roy Thompson of (Rockford, IL). His daughters Earlene Garner of (Stephens, Arkansas), Lucinda Thompson of (St. Paul, Minnesota), Priscilla Thompson and Sheila Thompson both of (Rockford, IL). Mr. Thompson was also known to be a great-great grandfather, a great grandfather, a grandfather to an uncountable amount of children. He had a very extensive family including a host of nieces and nephews like Betty Sue Wheaton, and special friends Ronnie Davis and Thomas Golden. What a great blessing! Earl is predeceased by both his parents, his wife Lucille Thompson, his two sons Willie Williams and Keith Thompson. His 3 brothers Dale, Otis and James Thompson, also his 3 sisters Florene Thompson, Bertha Holliman, and Lillie Bee Owens. He also leaves to cherish his long-term friend James Redmond. Mr. Thompson will be greatly missed and was the last Thompson surviving out of his six brothers and sisters.
