Bruce Walston

Bruce Walston departed this life on February 7, 2025, in Rockford, IL, after a brief illness. He was born on February 10, 1963, to Dollie Roe and Exzetter Walston in Rockford, IL. Following his fathers passing, he was raised by his stepfather, Peter Gatlin.

Bruce graduated from Auburn High School and soon after moved to California, where he lived for many years while working in the hotel management industry. He later returned to Rockford.

Known as one of the best roller skaters in Rockford, Bruce was admired for his outgoing yet laid-back personality. He had a love for connecting with people and brought joy to those around him.

Bruce leaves to cherish his memory four sisters: Freddie (Albert) Porter of Rockford, IL; Nathell Walston of Oakland, CA; Demetra Jefferson of South San Francisco, CA; and Vanessa Woodard of

Mankato, MN. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Walston of Rockford, IL, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, paternal and maternal grandparents, and his brother, Sedrick Gatlin.

Bruce’s legacy of warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him.
