Bernita Lynn “Lady” Jones departed this earthly life on August 14, 2025. She was born on November 28, 1971, in Rockford, Illinois, the beloved daughter of Jesse and Martha Jones.
Bernita lived life to the fullest—bold, unapologetic, and filled with joy. She was one of the kindest women you could ever meet, with a heart as big as her smile. Never shy, she had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and loved.
She was a member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church until her health challenges prevented her from attending. A proud graduate of East High School, Class of 1990, Bernita gave her life to Christ under the leadership of Dr. Louis E. Malone at a young age and later in life joined St. Luke MBC.
Bernita was full of life and laughter. She enjoyed playing Bingo, trying her luck at the boat and the slots, and scratching off her favorite tickets. She had a gift for cooking, especially her famous golden-brown fried chicken. She also loved singing and spending time with her family, who meant the world to her.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Tynieshia Tate; granddaughter, Rosebella Nicole Vicente; parents, Jesse and Martha Jones; sister, Valisa (Brad) Walker; brother, Jesse Jones Jr.; two special sisters, Virginia Johnson and Joann Tate; nieces, Takiya Walker and Talissia Jones; nephews, De’Karri (Willa) Beasley and Bryce Walker; great-nephew, Winstyn Beasley; great-nieces, De’Karri E. Beasley and “coming soon,” Willow Beasley; grandmother, Flora Jones; godson, Anquan Tate; special nieces, Latoyia and Latosha Tate, and Charlie Patton; special nephew, Antwon Tate; along with a host of other relatives, friends, and bonus nieces and nephews.
