Berthola Wells

Berthola Chester Wells, the eldest daughter of Sam and Carrie Walker, was born on October 25, 1932 in Long Branch, Mississippi. She went home to join her heavenly Father on October 9, 2016. Berthola accepted Christ at the Long Branch Church, in Long Branch, Mississippi. Berthola was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Freeport, Illinois where she resided prior to moving to Rockford, Illinois. She joined and attended New Zion Missionary Baptist for the past several years. She was a faithful member and participant of various church activities. Berthola was an usher, a member of Club One, and the Senior Choir. Berthola truly loved God and she met no strangers. She was always willing to encourage and help others. Berthola also loved to travel and did so. Not only cross the U.S. north, south, east and west but throughout the world, from the Caribbean Islands to Asia. She was blessed to see many of God's wonderful creations. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her daughter Earlene (James) Wallace, Gurnee, IL, grandchildren: Andre' J. (Corrie), Wallace Sr., Skokie, IL, Maurice J. Conley, Champaign, IL, Jamia (Charles) Baldwin, Detroit, MI, Giovanni Gary Gulley, Detroit, MI, great grandchildren: Andre' J. Wallace, Jr., Philadelphia, PA, Jordan A. Wallace, Liana R. Wallace, Skokie, IL, great grandson: Gary James Baldwin, Detroit, MI. Mother Carrie Walker, Vicksburg, MS, brothers: Monroe Johnson, Chicago, IL, Sammie L. (Marsha) Walker, Wilmington, DE, Charles (Regina) Walker, Southfield, MI, Paul Walker, and Larry (Linda) Walker, Vicksburg, MS. Sisters: LuVenia Wakefield, Houston, TX, Ann Elizabeth Taylor, Louisville, KY, Barbara Shipp, Jonesboro, GA, and Sandra Gail Walker, Flower Mound, TX. A beloved sister-in-law and traveling buddies Frances Ammons and Jeanette Bruce. A loving best friend, Benora Thompson. A special cousin Carol (Victor) Bell. A host of loving nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, relatives, church family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her Father Sam Walker, sister Delois Walker, daughter, Diane Chester, sons, Fred Chester Jr. and Gary L. Chester, grandson, James E. Wallace, Jr. Funeral will be held on Saturday, October 22 at New Zion Baptist Church at 11a.m.. Visitation will begin at 9a.m. Services are entrusted to Collins and Stone Funeral Home. 128 South 5th Street, Rockford, Illinois 61104.
