Tomie “Tommy” Edwards

Tomie “Tommy” Lee Edwards, 63 of Cairo, IL departed this earthly life when it was abruptly taken from him on 05/22/2018. He was born November 29th, 1954 in West Memphis, Arkansas, the son of Lenora L. Henderson and L.C. Caldwell.

Tomie lived in Rockford, IL from a young age and graduated from Auburn High School, class of 1973. Upon graduation, his graduation gift to himself was a brand new 1973 Pontiac Ventura with black racing stripes on it. He worked at least 10 years at Commercial Wire until the company closed. He then started his own carpentry business before he moved to The Delta in Mississippi in 1992, where he continued to run his business. In 2013, Tomie set out to venture the country driving Semi-Trucks, which he truly enjoyed seeing all that the country had to offer and the people he enjoyed meeting in the process. In 2015, Tomie proudly paid cash for his home in Cairo, IL where he decided he wanted to retire to just enjoy hunting, fishing, gardening and helping his family, friends and neighbors in any way he could.

Tomie leaves to cherish many loving memories, mother Lenora Henderson, two daughters, Connie (Michael Thomas) Jefferson and April (Hosealee Jr) Blakely; six grandchildren, LaMarkos, Stephen, Brittney, Alvin, Hosealee III and Milen; four great-grandchildren, LaToria, LaVeah, Andrew and Nyra. Four brothers; Larry (Dyla) Foster, Timothy (Marilyn) Henderson, Mark Henderson and Bobby Henderson; six sisters, Carolyn Edwards, Sheila Henderson, Martrice (Shelby) Williams-Aldridge, Marchell (Jerry) Keller, Margaret Pitts and Brenda Henderson-Compton; special niece, Larena Foster and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by daughter LaShannon Edwards, and three great-granddaughters Aaliyah, LaMiyah and LaZiyah.
