Joe Willard Herron 84, was born on June 13, 1934 in Jackson, TN., to Milton & Roberta Herron. He departed this earthly life Monday, January 07, 2019 surrounded by family.
Joe professed his faith in the Lord at an early age and attended schools in Jackson , TN., he joined in holy matrimony on 05/12/1957 in Corinth, MS to Jean Carolyn Harris, they later moved to Rockford in August 1957 coming from Jackson, TN.
An accomplished musician and lead guitarist of the Legendary group "Sons of the Holy Land" they recorded the song "Wake Me, Shake Me, Don't Sleep to Long."
A trail blazer and example for his two sons, he loved sharing his craft and gift of music. He accepted the position of guitarist at United Faith a position he held for over 30 years until his failing health.
Joe worked as a laborer at Swift for 18 years then accepted the janitorial position at New Zion M.B. Church for over 20 years until he retired at age 70.
He was a father, friend and PawPaw to many. Joe was a quiet man but showed himself to be friendly and loving to others he met.
Paw Paw leaves to cherish many loving memories his devoted and loving sweet wife, of 61 years Jean C. Herron; two sons, Rev. Joseph E. (Delores) Herron, and Deacon Michael (Tina) Herron; three sisters, Mary Herron of Rockford, Patsy Hereford, and Velva Howard of Nashville, TN; one brother, Charles Herron of Jackson, TN; Grandchildren, Jeanada (Patrick) Walker of Dallas, TX., D'Angelo (Sequelia) Herron of Cedar Hills, TX., Joseph E. (Whitley) Herron III of Rockford, Michael T. (Regina) Herron of Cedar Hills, TX., Mynesha (DaVontay) Swain, Quandarius S. Herron, Miracle S. Herron, Domonique (Shatiqua) Marshall, Patrick (Teneisha) Robinson, Nicholas Jernigan all of Rockford; great grands Jaedon, D'Angela, Deanna, Christopher, Aliyah, Kayka, Jordyn, Zariah, Zoe, Joseph III, Joshua, Hezekiah, Raniyah, and other adopted grands along with, his best friend, Lawrence Young; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Predeceased by both parents; three sisters, Alice Taylor, Polly Hagman, and Cora Gillard; brother, Millard Herron; nephew, Michael A. Herron; and two grand children, Jamaya and Joeqavion.
Services will be held 11am Monday, January 14, 2019 at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church 604 Salter Ave, with visitation from 9am until time of service. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements completed by Collins & Stone Funeral Home 128 S Fifth Street.
