Dorothy M. McDowell

Dorothy Mae McDowell was born in Tunica, Mississippi, on January 30, 1954. She departed this life on Sunday, June 17, 2018. She was the eldest child of Sadie Lee (Myles) and John Henry McDowell.

She lived in Chicago, Illinois for almost 34 years before moving to Rockford in 1988. She was a member of Living Word Full Gospel Missionary Church. She loved life and helping her family and friends. She was a giver and very kindhearted. The family recognized her as a matriarch.  She was employed through the State of Illinois as a Personal Assistant and a foster parent.

She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter Miketha (Raymond) Searcy, three children whom she raised, Sadie, Bobby and Tracy Brookins, all of Rockford, Illinois.  Three grandchildren Mirisha McDowell, Miraea and Monae Searcy.  Three sisters, Ruthie, Dena, and Linda McDowell all of Rockford, Illinois, a companion JC Toenail aunt and friend Mary Ann Howell, two special cousins, Ruth Spence and Martha Avery.  Three uncles Robert and Eddie Myles of Rockford, Illinois, Herman Myles of Freeport, Illinois and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, a brother Preston McDowell and a sister Selissa McDowell.
