Mrs. Bessie M. Box, daughter of the late Wilson King and Bessie Meadows was born March 06, 1948 in Thomaston, Alabama. She attended schools in Alabama before coming to Rockford. Bessie was employed with Ingersoll Milling and Swedish American Hospital for many years before retiring.
She was united in holy matrimony to Henry Box Jr. on April 26, 1971. The union was blessed with 5 children. Henry proceeded her in death on October 7, 2005.
Bessie was a loving, caring Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who always put others first. Bessie enjoyed working in the garden, spending time with her children, grandchildren and watching her daytime shows. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life Tuesday, August 6, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, Father-in-law, Mother-in-law, two brothers and two grandchildren. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children; Henry (Lisa) Box III, Anthony Fiancé (Tela) Box, Sarina (Paul) Chandler, Faye (Donnell) Jackson all of Rockford and Chentail (Rufus) Barrett (Atlanta, GA).
Bessie also raised two grandchildren like her own; Ashley Box and Donnell Jackson Jr.; one great granddaughter, Zieelle Evans; 16 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; four brothers, Preston King, Ivory King, Charles King and William Karlene Meadows; four sisters, Evelyn (William) Barmore, Marion Sewell, Benita Robinson and Patricia (John) Harkins; one brother-in-law, Harry Box; four sister-in-laws, Jessie Smith, Christine (Billy) Moore, Clara (Eddie) Williams and Maxine Staten all from Rockford and a host of nieces and nephews’ other relatives and friends.
