Welcome to the memorial page for

Sherman Scruggs

November 10, 1953 ~ July 16, 2015 (age 61) 61 Years Old
On July 16, 2015 as the night lingered into the new dawn, Sherman Scruggs, 61, pointed toward his feet to notify this life he was about to step into a life without end. He then peacefully departed in his sleep. Sherman was the seventh child born to Cleveland Scruggs Sr and Annie Scruggs on November 10, 1953. Sherman was raised in Chicago, Illinois by his loving parents. He attended Tilden High School in Chicago Illinois. Sherman's last year of life was absorbed with living in preparation of dying; he taken the preparation times and lived his good times as if they were his last. He took his dying times and lived them without complaint. He lived his best life without apology. Though the last two weeks Sherman fervently prepared for his departure even though his body was weak, and feeble he'd taken it all with dignity and respect. He stated himself "my soul was quickly taken from me,and Im nothing more than a shell of a man. Im going to die peaceful in my sleep". Sherman was the conductor of reminiscing about his life and family. He always shared old sayings to appeal to the young people that were questing of understanding. He humored many with much laughter; his smile was inspiring, and contagious. He was passionate about music, and enjoyed many genres. Sherman could hear a few beats of a song, and quickly name the performer and era it was from. Sherman was very versed in the daily occurrence of this world. When asked his opinions on matters of politics, prosperity, and lack he was obliged to share. When asked if he had any regrets in his life, he shared candidly, "When i was a young man I would steal my mother's car. I ended up going to jail twice, whereas I had my first encounter with the reality that God was real." Sherman lived life on his own terms, however nothing could compare to last year when he faithfully confessed to live on the terms of his Lord, Personal Savior, Jesus Christ! Sherman leaves many memories of his life: His wife: Pat Scruggs; three step children, three brothers, Aaron-Yvonne Scruggs, of Rockford, Illinois; three sisters, Alberta William Evans, of Rockford, Illinois, Martha Avery of Rockford, Ollie-Kenneth Porter, of Rockford Illinois. In all, Sherman loved 8 siblings, 13 nephews, 15 nieces, 1 wife, 3 step children, eight grandchildren, eight great grand children, special friends, Jimmy Avery, Eddie Myles, and Rashad. He is preceded into time without end by his parents Cleveland Sr and Annie Scruggs; brother Jessie-Betty Hill; brother in law John Avery, Nephews Marvin Hill, Bernard Hill, Jerome Lottie, and Niece Carolyn Lottie. Our family would like to take this time to honor God with thanksgiving. We thank God for allowing us to take part in the transitioning of Sherman life to eternity. We thank God for allowing us to love, honor, and keepsake great memories of Sherman. We thank God for the many wonderful family members and friends near and far who graciously showered us with love and compassion during our time of great sorrow. We thank God for VNA Visiting Nursing Hospice, James and Rose. As Sherman would say "Im dying." In response our family would reply "We're all dying day by day Sherman"
