RAY CHARLES NICHOLS, 57 ROCKFORD - Ray Charles Nichols, 57, of Rockford departed this life Saturday, May 16 2015, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Ray was born July 21, 1957, in Louisville, KY., the son of Thurman and Dorothy Nichols. He lived in Rockford since the early 80's, coming from Louisville, KY, where he grew up and attended school. He married Mary Ann (Glass) on Nov. 15, 1991, in Rockford, IL. He worked as a machine operator for many years. He was a member of Browns Temple Church of God and Christ, serving as deacon and armor bearer. Ray took pride in every job, duty, and task he was appointed. He was a loving and devoted Christian husband, father and friend to all. Ray leaves to cherish many memories, wife, Mary; sons, Jeffrey Stephens, Lavelle Glass, Malachi Nichols, Ray Nichols Jr; daughters, Carmen Glass, Tyesha Hawkins, Mariah Nichols; 18 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brothers, Thurman Nichols, Michael Nichols; sisters, Helen Kyles , Diann Jordan. Ray was preceded in death by both father and mother,along with brothers Eugene and John Nichols. " Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the lord for ever". Psalm 23.6.
