Ossie "Dee Dee" Gibson, 76, of Rockford departed this life Tuesday, November 25, 2014, in Swedish American Hospital after a long illness. She was born May 4, 1938 in Athens, AL, the daughter of Uzziah Horton and Lucille Moore. Dee Dee attended West High School and Rock Valley College in Rockford, IL. On June 1, 1958 she became a dedicated member of Jehovah's Witnesses. She wore many hats throughout her lifetime, she was employed as a cook at Central Day Care, worked for the Rockford Register Star and OIC Vocational Institute just to name a few. Dee Dee could often be found in the kitchen, as she loved to cook, but most of alla€"she lived to shop. She is most fondly remembered for her sense of humor that kept everyone around her laughing. When she wasn't cooking up a good southern meal or heading off to the mall for a little "retail therapy" she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters: Natonya Franklin and Charlotte Horton of Fairfield, CA, three sons: Melvin Davis and Keith Davis of Rockford, IL, and Christopher (Janie) Davis of Peoria, IL, three sisters: Audrey Henderson of Gary, IN, Lillian Pearl Williams and Regina Brewer of Rockford, IL.
