Leon Thomas Glover 71 of Rockford passed away Monday, November 21, 2016 after a courageous battle with COPD surrounded by family and friends. Leon was born January 18, 1945 in Greenville, MS to Elie and Mattie P. Robinson Glover.
Leon graduated from West High School in 1964 and received further training at Rock Valley College. Leon served in the United States Army Reserved from 1965 to 1972. Leon began his career in the Tool and Die Industry with an internship at Barber-Coleman while in high school. He worked there for many years. He later worked as a Service Engineer at Sundstrand Corp, Rockford, Il, American Pfauter, Jones & Lamson, and Dorries Scharmann, all in the Chicago area. After many years of traveling, Leon retired from the machine tool industry. During the late nineties and early two thousand, Leon owned and operated an automotive detailing buisiness. His last venture was as a truck driver for Celadon and Werner Enterprise. In 2006, Leon retired due to illness.
Leon leaves to cherish his life and legacy, his wife, Minnie Glover; one son, Michael Glover; four sisters, Bessie L. (James) Prunty, Otea Glover, both of Rockford; Mattie P. Headd of Henrico, Va., and Leonora E. (William) Gentry of South Carolina; nine brothers, Elie Glover of Seattle, WA., Lonnie (Dawn) Glover of Minneapolis, MN., John (Karen) Glover of Phoenix, AZ., Melvin Glover of Chicago, IL., Ernest Glover of Moline, IL., Timothy Glover of Las Vegas, NV., Eddie Glover, William Glover, and Ronnie Glover all of Rockford, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Preceded in death are Leon's parents, and one brother Cleota Glover. Special thanks to Northern Illinois Hospice.
